RE: Application for Junior Landscape Architect in Community Development
Dear Mr. Moroz
Stantec is truly inspiring, through their global efforts to local community development, and equal opportunities for a wide population of well integrated professionals. It would be an honour to work for a company that provides continuous learning opportunities for employees. Friends through my program have praised their experience with Stantec, and I wish to also have great things to say.
Transparency is important to me. I understand the competitiveness of this profession, and note there is no previous experience in a Landscape Architecture firm on this resume. However, I do have professional experience. Corporate finance offered the greatest income through school while attending as a mature student. Furthermore, the experience in corporate finance may be an asset. It teaches efficiency, risk assessment, and account management with great accuracy. While working in finance, I also committed to various horticulture and design related positions to apply towards my education. Experience as a horticulturist, small-scale residential Design & Build, published photographer and artist contribute additional assets to this application. A strong dedication to community work, volunteering, mentoring, and a strong research background in community and urban design compliment my technical and design skill sets. As an autistic, gay, and Métis citizen, I understand the importance of cohesiveness and inclusion. Designing places for 100% of the population is very important to me, and my greatest aspiration.
Throughout my portfolio, examples of community based development are illustrated. My research focused on AODA standards, active design and public health, living infrastructure for cleaner cities, integrated homeless shelters as temporary relief, and therapy gardens. As a photographer and artist, I have over 10 years of experience with Photoshop. With my Bachelors of Landscape Architecture, I have 4 years of experience with AutoCad, SketchUp, Adobe Suite, and have taken additional tutorials on Rhino. I have also taken courses outside of my BLA that focuses on integrating hand-graphics with digital software. I am very efficient with both hand-rendering and digital production, and looking forward to learning more efficient ways. With over 15 years in Customer Service, I have attained very strong communication and negotiation skills. I have a fair knowledge regarding landscape construction, which is limited to urban planters, planting designs, and small scale grading. With all my experience, I remain adaptable to fit the needs of a business, and am fast to learn. I am a member to both CLARB and OALA, I am awaiting results for writing Section 1 of the LARE on April 6th, 2017. Various references are supplied upon request, throughout my work experience. I greatly appreciate your consideration to work in Community Development as a Junior Landscape Architect. Please do not hesitate to contact me directly if you have any questions. Furthermore, please enjoy my portfolio.
Yours Truly,
Aaron Michael O’Neil
